According to a new study from market research firm Mintel, the majority of customers say that a product's Label is one of the top three reasons they make a purchase.
The study found that 60% of customers say that a product's Label is either "extremely important" or "very important" when deciding whether or not to make a purchase.
When it comes to a product's Label, customers do read it. But a label has many parts to consider. So which ones should you focus on? We'll tell you below:
According to the study, those who said that labels are important, more than half also mentioned that the information on a product's Label is more important than the price.
With so many products to choose from and so much information available, brands need to make sure their labels stand out and provide the information consumers are looking for.
So what exactly are customers looking for on a product's Label? The Mintel study found that the top three things customers say are important to them are:
The ingredients list: 77% of customers say this is important to them.
The nutrition facts: 63% of customers say this is important to them.
The country of origin: 62% of customers say this is important to them.
Other things that customers say are important to them when reading a product's Label include: the list of allergens (40%), expiration date (37%), recycling information (36%), and certifications (33%).
The study also found that customers are increasingly interested in labels that make health claims. Forty percent of customers say they're more likely to purchase a product if it has a health claim on the Label, such as "low fat" or "no sugar added."
Now we know. The information customers are looking for is essential to them. So if you want to make sure your customers select your product, make sure your Label is clear, informative, and easy to read.
Studies have shown that up to 70% of consumer goods' purchasing decisions are based on packaging alone.
A well-designed label can make a big difference in whether or not a customer chooses your product.
To design a label that will make an impact, start by considering your brand identity. What message do you want to communicate? What colours and fonts represent your brand? Once you have a clear idea of your brand's look and feel, you can start to experiment with design elements.
Consider using shapes, images, and patterns to add interest to your Label. Use typography to convey important information (yes, the information we just talked about) and make sure it is easy to read. And don't forget about the back of the Label – this is an excellent opportunity to include additional details or even a QR code that customers can scan to add more value to the overall experience.
If your product requires to appeal to a more luxurious market or cater to a more competitive industry that you need to stand out against competitors, using embellishments is a great way to make your Label stand out. Foil stamping, embossing, and Spot UV are all popular ways to add a premium look and feel to your labels.
When it comes to custom label design, there are endless possibilities. But ultimately, the goal is to create a label that accurately reflects your brand and makes your product look appealing to customers. With a bit of creativity and attention to detail, you can design a Label that will help your product stand out from the competition.
